The borders are about 2 inches thick at the top and sides, and about 1 inch thick at the bottom - dramatically reducing my "full screen" to about the size of a 12 inch laptop. If I set the guest to a 16:10 resolution, I get black borders all around the guest - and about the same size regardless of the guest resolution.
